PostSubject: Bruce-ti and the new u12   Mon Aug 09, 2010 6:35 am

Well, i got my new toy. (much to the wife's dismay)

It is a HNU12 Bluebird. Hardtop pillarless atessa. Which simply means AWD.

work has started. I will put some pics up soon. Done on the weekend. Swapped over the turbo and manifold (even though it is smaller). I took it for a strap and it would only boost to 5psi and a quick reconnection of the intercooler piping saw it climb to 10. I had to twist the hell out of the exhaust to make it line up. That has me stuffed, it looked the same.

The first time i took it out i had oil shooting out of the blow off valve. He did tell me that when the turbo blew it put oil into the piping. I must have poured about 2 litres out of the intercooler and there was even some in the plenum. I have an oil leak around the timing chain cover area. But i think i will get someone to do that and change the belts and timing chain and guides at the same time. I will just concentrate on the easier stuff that i need for roadworthy.

Gear lever is mine. Carpet is just about brand new. It has original floor mats that i need to clean. I still have to fix the power windows and a few small things. I have a white bonnet that i might swap over as this one has a bit of hail damage. But the white one has a WRX scoop on it. Hmmmmmmmm i will see how it looks. I might even give the old turbo a go at a rebuild. Took it for a strap today. 17 PSI. Hell yeah. Talk about grip.

Rego? no. There are a few things that i need to do. I want to try to rebuild the old turbo to get the power back and save changing the exhaust. Power windows need to be fixed. I want to see what it looks like with the windows down.

I love having a blank slate with a car that already has power.

The mags are off my Ti. It had black rims that will come in handy with street slicks.

Read the bottom bit of the post. I got done with a gotcha call. Hear me tomorrow morning.

As an update. New turbo has arrived and as far as price goes. What a bargain. Now I just have to fix the oil leak around the timing chain, because I am not paying 4 grand to fix it

Hey, those gutter bashers were awesome when i bought them in 2002. (frogger, that long ago) And they still are. But it will be rockin 15 inch black ones that came with it for the track (cheap tyres).

I am thinking i need to pull the engine out and do the timing chain cover. I have collected all the gaskets that i need. The exhaust manifold one turned up today. And i have a good web site for the engine.

The new (sort of) turbo.

Well. Just about there. Should be registered next week.

Then i can fit the coilovers that i have, new swaybars and all new bushing.

And fix the boot that the bloody apprentice backed into.

Roof has been painted as well. And now the top coat on the bonnet.

I still have to look at a way to lower the seat or get a new one after it is registered.

That is the primer on the bonnet. Car is just going to stay black now. As for the interior. It will stay standard for a while. I am concentrating on just getting it ready for the track, mainly handling and once i learn how to drive it, more power. All our circuits are tight and i am not really interested in taking it to the drags, so i do not think i will go bigger turbo. Not sure as to what to do. But i will not be looking into the engine till next year and it will come out and be fully rebuilt.

I was thinking of the nistune. And definately some tunes. (stereo)

Just find somewhere to get the Nistune done first. Good system once it is sorted by someone who knows what they are doing. Stay away from the townsville frogger with this system.

Smaller turbo for good response. Maybe a GT2860 same as mine. S15 Spec R has a similar turbo to this as well. CryO2 system for the intercooler to get the air temps down on the slower tight track down there. Coil overs and bigger swaybars maybe even some DIY chassis bracing. Some good semi slicks and some brave pills will see you getting some good times I reckon.

Coilovers taken care of. Swaybars taken care of. Oil cooler taken care of. Radiator taken care of. Hopefully bomex front bar taken care of.

And certainly thinking of the nistune.

Once mine was sorted properly it is absolutely unreal the level of tune ability you can get from the factory system. I think I found out that Extreme does do a little Nistune work but if you know what you are doing then that is even better.

Mods are so easy to sort out. Bigger injectors, turbo, AFM, cams anything you can think of is just a drop down menu, select what you have and the program changes what it needs to so as to account for your new parts. Brilliant.

I can not help myself. I have bought another, but that gives me a chance to go a bit more crazy with the track car. Coilovers are fitted, bit of a wild ride. I have some issues with some vacuum lines that I thought some blue silicone hose would look pretty with. So either better hose or back to rubber. Finally registered and back home now. I still have to fit the oil cooler and alum radiator. I have a front bar that I am trying to sort out as well. It is for a WRX and I think I have to cut and shut about 40mm out of it.
